Free Things to do in Kissimmee

The FantasyWorld Kissimmee resorts offer a great home base for your stay in Central Florida. While being just a short drive from all of the major theme parks, and within easy reach of beaches and other attractions, our resort also offers plenty of onsite entertainment. If that weren’t enough, Kissimmee offers a variety of fun things to do, many of which are free, helping you make the most of your vacation budget. Here are some of our top pics.

  • Old Town. The big amusement parks are fun, but they’re also crowded and expensive. Consider a visit to Old Town for the feel of a classic American amusement park. Although built in 1986, this 10-acre walking district gives you a feel for times past, while still offering contemporary pleasures, too. Eat, shop, and play is a good motto for Old Town, with its brick streets that lead you to a variety of options for all ages. The Classic Car Cruise and other classic-car themed events are hugely popular. There’s also a great Ferris Wheel reaching 85 feet up into the sky, which is lit up with 6,000 LED lights at night. In fact, visiting at night is a treat in itself as the park lights up. There are roller coasters and other rides available, along with the Happy Days Family Fun Center, the Great Magic Hall, and more. Technically, a wristband needs to be purchased for the rides, but it pays for itself quickly and the lines are much shorter than typical theme parks. There is also plenty of food and drink to choose from, both in cuisine and in style, from sit-down restaurants to fast food, to bars and saloons for the adults.
  • The Town of Celebration. Despite appearances — and the fact that it was thought up by Walt Disney himself — the Town of Celebration is not part of Disney. This 11-mile town was designed to be a model town, though it didn’t come to life until 30 years after Walt Disney’s death. Here, you’ll find plenty of curb appeal with lovely lawns and classic picket fences. There are a surprising number of events held throughout the year. With Christmas approaching, don’t miss a visit if you’re going to be in town for the holiday season. Even on a regular day, there’s plenty to enjoy in the charming downtown area, with its brick streets, variety of shops and restaurants, and beautiful lake views. With walking and bike paths, as well as boardwalks and picturesque neighborhoods, it’s worth visiting this idyllic town.
  • Kissimmee Lakefront Park. Florida is a beautiful state with some amazing flora and fauna. If you’re looking to spend a nice day outdoors, pack a picnic, which is easy to do from the full kitchen in the FantasyWorld resort villas, and head to Kissimmee Lakefront Park, which is a short walk from Downtown Kissimmee and borders Lake Tohopekaliga, one of Florida’s largest lakes. As well as the water activities on the lake, there’s also a splash pad for kids, a playground, a beautiful lighthouse, a huge statue, and a military memorial for the 50 states with stones from different states and countries. There’s also plenty of space to go for a walk, run, or jog, do some yoga, or go fishing or kayaking.
  • Wat Florida Dhammaram. For something a little different and unexpected, visit this beautiful Buddhist Temple right in Kissimmee. This is best for adults and teens, as it is meant to be a quiet place for introspection and meditation, but it’s also just a lovely area to walk around and enjoy the grounds of this seven-acre retreat, including the temple’s amazing decorations and Buddhas, including larger than life statues outside. You are required to remove your shoes before entering but you’ll also find that the monks are friendly and typically happy to answer your questions about their religion. This is a fantastic cultural stop for any Kissimmee visitors.

These are just a few of the many free (or low-cost) things to do in Kissimmee. You’ll find plenty of places where you can window shop, enjoy some free entertainment with your meal, and a wealth of parks, so there’s always something for everyone to enjoy. Check out Shingle Creek Park Regional Park, Disney Wilderness Preserve, and Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets for some more fun and inexpensive options. Break up your visits to the crowded theme parks and take in some of the local color and scenery. You’ll be amazed at just how much there is to see and do when you stay at one of the Kissimmee resorts like FantasyWorld. Book your next vacation today in our spacious vacation villas ideally located to make the most of all that Central Florida offers.
