Key Things to Know if Planning a Disney World Trip in 2022

With this year continuing the big 50th anniversary celebration of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, it’s no surprise that plenty of people want to be part of the festivities. If you’re planning a trip this year, there are some things to keep in mind. One is that you can get special deals and spacious villas in Kissimmee at FantasyWorld, one of the leading resorts in the area that is ideally located to enjoy all of the theme parks, as well as the other attractions throughout Central Florida.

There are certain recent changes that remain in place, but there are also new additions that are coming, so there’s a lot to look out for on your visit. There are still certain health and safety measures remaining in place. Masks are mandatory for all guests ages 2 and up, regardless of vaccination status, in all indoor locations across the resort. This includes transportation and definitely attractions. However, in outdoor common areas, masks remain optional. That said, temperature checks are no more and distancing measures are being reduced or eliminated, such as the plexiglass dividers on rides.

When the parks first reopened, they capped the number of guests allowed at 20%, but that number continues to rise and is likely to continue to go up. However, reservations remain an absolute must. The Park Pass reservation system is likely to remain in place until at least 2023. You must use this system to reserve the park you plan to visit on each day of your vacation. With more people going, it’s getting harder to book reservations, especially around the usual high-season dates. Book as early as you possibly can, because they are filling up fast! However, Park Hopping has returned. You still need your reservation for the first park you plan to visit that day, but if space is available, you can hop to another park at 2 p.m.

One big change you’ll see and want to know about is the end of the FastPass+. Don’t worry, there’s a new way to skip the worst of the lines. Now there are Lightning Lanes, which guests can pay to access using the all-new Genie+ service. This add-on covers 46 rides and can be purchased on the same-day. (No more getting up early 60 days in advance to snag your spot!) It’s also possible to purchase your ticket with Genie+ included for the duration of your trip.

Still, you won’t be able to use this for every ride the family wants to go on every day, so plan your must-sees in advance and plan out your route through the park to make the most of your time. Plus, you’ll need to know how to make reservations for some of those popular rides. Virtual queues are becoming more popular at various parks and rides.

Things aren’t completely back to the way they were, but at least the nighttime extravaganzas are returning for the 50th anniversary celebration. This year, you can enjoy “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom and “Harmonious” at EPCOT. In addition, you’ll find that more entertainment, shows, and character meet-and-greets are returning or at least returning in some modified form.

Things continue to change and adjust so try to keep track and book your park reservations and tickets and your villas in Kissimmee at FantasyWorld as soon as you know you can go. But don’t forget to consider travel insurance, just in case there are any changes. Better safe than sorry! Otherwise, look forward to a fantasy vacation at the Magic Kingdom.
