Packing Tips for a Winter Disney Trip

The weather forecast for Orlando in the first half of January ranges with highs of 78F to lows of 42F, with the humidity hovering in the high 60s to mid 70s. That means you could spend parts of your day sweating and freezing. When it comes to packing for a vacation at one of the Kissimmee vacation resorts like Fantasy World, it takes a little extra thought and preparation to be prepared for all four seasons in one day. Fortunately, there are plenty of great products out there that will get you through the temperature swings without taking up too much space in your luggage for all of those great Disney souvenirs.

Thermal shirts are a must-have for any winter Disney visit. These lightweight shirts are inexpensive and don’t take up much room in your luggage, but do a great job at keeping you warm. By keeping your own body head close to your skin, you feel warmer with less bulk. These are ideal for layering under another shirt so you can adjust as the temperatures change.

Packing items that are lightweight but warm isn’t only good for your luggage, it’s good for when you need to adjust during the day. Thick sweatshirts and sweaters are often too warm during the afternoon and take up too much room in backpacks or are uncomfortable tied around the waist. Rather than bulky sweaters and sweatshirts, consider fleece for earlier in the day and choose an 800-fill down coat for the evenings or really cold mornings. This particular coat is warmer than many items, but compresses easily. It’s a bit pricier, but it will see you through just about any cold weather.

Unless you’re particularly sensitive to the cold, you may not need a thick wool or fleece hat, but a knit cap may still come in handy on some of those outdoor rides when the wind starts to feel icier. At least consider a head wrap that keeps your ears warm.

For your hands, you can go with inexpensive hand warmers to keep in your pockets for those times when you’re waiting in line. Alternatively, consider touch-screen gloves so that you’re not constantly having to take gloves on and off to take pictures or check your itinerary.

It’s worth considering packing a few microfleece travel blankets, as they fold up small, but can provide plenty of heat. Whether you want to warm up a bit while standing in line or just want to have somewhere warmer to sit when you’re outdoors taking a break, these versatile blankets can get you through a lot of changes in temperature.

Finally, don’t forget that Central Florida is known for its brief but sudden thunderstorms. Be sure to pack a few rain ponchos you can throw on as you run for cover. No one wants to be wet and cold and these simple ponchos can make or break your day.

When you stay at the Fantasy World Kissimmee vacation resorts, you have the bonus of having a washer and dryer right in your villa. You can take advantage of this so you don’t have to pack as much clothing. By packing smart, you can save room in your luggage for all of those other T-shirts, mouse ears, and Disney regalia you’ll want to take home with you.
